The advancement of 3D mammogram screening over traditional methods avoids unclear x-ray images of overlapping tissue, which can sometimes lead to false positives or even failing to detect a malignancy.
During a mammogram screening, a technician will place your breast on a platform. A clear plastic plate will flatten the breast while an x-ray arm takes multiple pictures of the breast tissue in an arc-like pattern. The process is repeated on the other breast and takes only a few minutes. After the exam, a radiologist will review the findings of the mammogram and forward the results to you.

- Women ages 40 to 44 at Average Risk: Should consider the option of scheduling a yearly screening and learn the potential risks and benefits associated with mammograms.
- Women ages 45-54: Should schedule a mammogram every year.
- Women 55 and older: Can begin receiving mammograms every two years, or continue every year if they choose.
Women should continue to receive a mammogram screening as long are they are considered to be in good health. All women should also be aware of the normal appearance of their breasts and inform their doctor immediately if there are any changes.
