How to Make an Impact During Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is breast cancer awareness month, and as a facility that provides life-saving 3D mammograms, this is our favorite month. It’s an opportunity for the dialogue about mammograms to move beyond the confines of doctor-patient and into the mainstream, and it’s the perfect opportunity for everyone to take a role in furthering the effort to eradicate breast cancer.
Doctors and Nurses
Please take a moment to talk to your patients about the importance of getting annual mammograms starting at age 40, younger if they have extenuating circumstances. Explain the importance of mammograms as a preventative diagnostic tool.
Influencers and Celebrities
Share your stories. Get your mammogram and show the world your courage. Talk about your breast cancer journey. Talk about how getting a mammogram caught it early. Donate to breast cancer research.
Wear Pink
Breast cancer awareness is signified by a pink ribbon. You can show your support by wearing a pink ribbon and wearing pink, but you can do more by buying products that donate a significant portion of their proceeds to breast cancer research during the month. Be cautious – some organizations use the pink for marketing but donate very little, so think before you pink.
Educate Yourself and Others About the Importance of Mammograms
Learn about the importance of mammograms and how they’re helping to detect cancer before you can even feel a lump. Mammograms save lives and increase survival rates. Talk to your loved ones about getting a mammogram – while most facilities are still limiting guests, you can offer to drive someone to get their mammogram and be the moral support they need to get it done.
Having regular 3D mammograms performed by an experienced board-certified breast imaging specialist is the best way to detect abnormalities early. If you do require annual mammograms, we invite you to visit PURE Mammography on Long Island today. There is no appointment necessary; you can simply stop in at your convenience.
