PRP Hair Loss Treatment: A Natural and Effective Way to Restore Your Hair

Are you struggling with hair loss? If so, you’re not alone. Millions of women experience hair loss each year. There are many different treatments available, but PRP hair loss treatment is one of the most effective and natural options.

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. It’s a minimally invasive procedure that uses your own blood to stimulate hair growth. The blood is drawn from your arm and then spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelets. The platelets are then injected into the areas of your scalp where hair loss is occurring.

Benefits include:

  • Stimulates hair growth
  • Can help to prevent further hair loss
  • Natural treatment and minimally invasive

How it Works

PRP hair loss treatment works by delivering growth factors to the hair follicles. Growth factors are proteins that help to stimulate hair growth. When they’re injected into the scalp, they can help to promote new hair growth and prevent further hair loss.

Step 1: Blood Draw

A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm using a needle and syringe. The blood is then spun in a centrifuge to separate the PRP from the other blood cells. The PRP is the concentrated portion of the blood that contains growth factors and other proteins.

Step 2: Injection

The PRP is injected into the scalp in areas of concern.

The number of treatments you need will vary depending on the severity of your hair loss. Most people need 4-6 treatments which are spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

It depends, results often last 12 months or longer! It takes about 3 months to see measurable results to determine if additional sessions are necessary to achieve your ideal outcome. Once you are satisfied with your results, you can maintain it with one to two treatments per year, as needed.

You may start to notice results after a few weeks, however, it typically takes 3-6 months from your initial treatment to see measurable results.

PRP hair loss treatment is not painful. There may be some discomfort during the injection, but it's usually mild and goes away quickly. We apply a strong and safe numbing cream, most patients report they barely feel the injections!

Unfortunately no, but you may use a FSA for this treatment. Our front desk staff can support you with any paperwork needs.

Studies have shown this treatment to be one of the safest and most effective hair treatment procedures available today. There are generally no risks for this treatment. Possible side effects could be scalp tenderness at the injection site post procedure.

However, it is important to see a qualified healthcare provider who is experienced in performing this procedure. This is why we have a qualified team of physicians, nurses and NP’s at our offices performing all procedures.

On the day of your appointment, plan to arrive with clean hair free of any styling products.

There are not many, but there are a few. You would not be a candidate for any PRP procedure if:

  • You have an active, blood born cancer
  • If you have platelet dysfunction
  • If you have an active infection at the site of injection
  • If you are pregnant
  • If you are taking any blood thinner medications

There are a few simple requirements around medication and over the counter medications:

  • You have to wait 1 month for a PRP procedure after taking steroids
  • You have to wait weeks after regularly taking any NSAIDS
  • You have to be off Aspirin for 1 week before your procedure (unless it is baby aspirin)

How many treatments do I need?

The number of treatments you need will vary depending on the severity of your hair loss. Most people need 3 treatments, spaced 3-4 weeks apart.

How long do the results last?

The results of PRP hair loss treatment can last for several years. However, it’s important to maintain the results by getting regular touch-up treatments once a year.

How soon can I see results?

It typically takes 3-6 months from the start of the first treatment to begin seeing measurable results. However, many patients begin to see improvements between treatments such as hair shaft thickening, improvement in texture and new growth of hair follicles.

Is PRP hair loss treatment painful?

PRP hair loss treatment is not painful. Prior to treatment, a numbing agent is rubbed into the scalp to minimize any discomfort and many patients report feeling no pain during the procedure. After the procedure, you may feel soreness or discomfort at the injection sites but this can be addressed over the counter Tylenol.

Is PRP hair loss treatment covered by insurance?

PRP hair loss treatment is typically not covered by insurance.

Is it safe?

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) procedures are generally safe because the patient’s own blood is being used to treat a condition. As opposed to injecting foreign bodies or medicines where allergic reactions happen at a higher rate, injecting your body with its own PRP poses less risk. However, the risk of injecton itself always carries potential risks such as infection, nerve damage, pain at injection site and tissue damage. This is why it is so important to have your treatment with a licensed and reputable provider such as Pure Medspa, where safety and comfort are our top priority.

Are there any contraindications or reasons I wouldn’t be a candidate?

As with any PRP treatment if you have an active cancer or blood platelet disorder the procedure is not for you. PRP uses your own blood to stimulate growth and rejuvenation, therefore your blood health and ability to heal should be in prime condition in order to achieve your desired result.

Thank you! We will get back to you as soon as possible.
