COVID-19 Should Not Deter You from Your Routine Mammogram
It’s been roughly a year since we first began hearing about COVID-19. Since then, many of us have experienced enormous changes to much of our day-to-day lives. This is as true for us in our clinical environment as it is in our personal lives. We understand that it may be tempting to skip routine wellness checkups until “things get back to normal.” However, we do not know when that will be. Foregoing annual exams and screenings like mammograms could do more harm than good in the long run. Here, we discuss reasons to keep up with your mammograms and PURE Mammography on Long Island.
- We offer 3D mammograms. Our center was established to offer women a spa-like experience that can minimize the stress most feel about getting their annual mammogram. Additionally, we use only 3D mammogram technology. This allows the radiologist to see more. Studies have shown that 3D breast imaging is more accurate and better at detecting small breast cancers.
- Mammograms are our best resource for the detection of breast cancer. Yearly screenings are beneficial because they build a patient’s record. The radiologist or physician can compare breast images over time to identify subtle changes.
- Mammogram screenings are relatively quick and comfortable. Some women avoid starting their mammogram screenings as recommended because they are concerned about discomfort. While it is necessary to compress breast tissue to achieve accurate imaging, mammogram technology has improved so significantly over time that this aspect of care is much gentler than it once was. A mammogram usually takes only 10 to 15 minutes and is tolerable, if not comfortable, for most women.
- Mammography is a vital necessity in women’s healthcare. Our center has adopted several safety protocols to ensure that our clients and staff are well-protected against exposure to germs and viruses. At this time, staff and patients wear masks at all times and will continue to do so until we have reached a new normal as it relates to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Life may have changed quite a lot since this time last year. However, changes in daily life do not overshadow the benefits of routine healthcare. To schedule your 3D mammogram or breast ultrasound, call our Long Island center at 631-652-3424.
